Custom Wood Kitchen Islands, Hand-Built

Solid wood island craftsmanship from a shop that builds the base, the drawers and the countertop support as one joined piece — not a boxed-in slab.

About This Service

Built as One Solid Wood Island

A lot of kitchen islands are a plywood box with a counter dropped on top. We build ours differently. The base, the drawer boxes and the countertop support are planned together from the first sketch, so the finished island carries real weight and sits square on the floor for a lifetime.

That's kitchen island carpentry done right — solid hardwood legs, a true frame-and-panel base, and the same joinery you'd see in a well-made dining table. Whether you want the wood to disappear into your cabinetry or stand out as a contrast piece, we cut, join and finish it to match.

What's Included

Every Custom Wood Kitchen Island Comes With This.

Solid Hardwood Legs

Turned or square legs cut from the same species as your base — not veneer.

Reinforced Countertop Base

Framed and braced to carry stone, butcher block or quartz without sagging.

Dovetailed Drawer Boxes

Every drawer box dovetailed and glued, not stapled particleboard.

Pull-Out Trash & Recycling

Dual-bin pull-outs built into the base at the prep zone.

Contrast Wood Tones

Stain or paint the island a different wood tone than your perimeter cabinets.

Routed Outlet Channels

Pop-up outlets routed into the top edge so the countertop stays clean.

Craftsmanship in Detail

A Base Built to Carry Weight.

Lean on the corner of one of our islands and you won't feel it flex. That's because the frame underneath is built like a workbench — solid hardwood rails joined into the legs, not a particleboard box screwed together at the corners. Dovetailed drawers, scribed-in fillers and a hand-rubbed finish round out the details most people never notice, because they simply never fail.

Frequently Asked

Questions, Answered.

Don't see your question? We'd love to talk it through over a free in-home consultation.

Ask About Your Wood Island
What wood species work best for a kitchen island?

White oak and maple hold up well under daily use. Walnut and cherry are popular for a contrast base against a lighter perimeter.

Can you build a movable wood island?

Yes. We build locking-caster bases with the same solid wood joinery as our fixed islands.

Do you install the countertop too?

We build and brace the wood base, then coordinate stone, butcher block or quartz fabrication with your countertop installer.

How long does a custom wood island take to build?

Most islands are built and installed in 4 to 6 weeks after design approval. See our designer woodwork page if you're coordinating a full kitchen.
