About This Service

Your Wardrobe, Set in Real Wood

Most closet companies build out of melamine-coated particleboard and hold it together with cam-lock fasteners. We build the other way. Every shelf, rod support and drawer front in a Rines Design closet is solid wood, cut and joined in our Indianapolis woodworking shop.

We start by counting — long hangs, short hangs, shoes, folded stacks, handbags — then build a custom dressing room woodwork layout around what you actually own. Soft-close drawers, hand-fitted valet rods and solid wood shelving that won't sag under a season's worth of sweaters. For reference on how hardwood species perform under daily wear, the Hardwood Manufacturers Association keeps detailed species guides worth a look.

What's Included

Every Custom Wood Closet System Comes With This.

Solid Wood Shelving

Maple and oak shelving, thick enough to span a wide closet without a center support.

Hand-Joined Drawer Boxes

Dovetailed drawer construction — not stapled particleboard — in every wood shelving system we build.

Scribed to Your Walls

Solid wood closet build fitted tight to real walls and ceilings — no gaps, no filler panels.

Hand-Fitted Valet Rods

Pull-out rods mortised into the wood frame, not screwed to a particleboard face.

Angled Wood Shoe Shelving

Adjustable solid wood shelves, angled and spaced for everything from flats to knee-high boots.

Solid Wood Island Build

Center islands built as real furniture pieces — seating, charging drawers and hidden hampers included.

Craftsmanship in Detail

Closet Carpentry, Done Right.

Run your hand along a shelf edge in a Rines Design closet and you'll feel a hand-sanded round, not a sharp melamine edge. Open a drawer and it glides on real wood runners we fit by hand, not plastic clips. That's what wood closet carpentry in Indianapolis looks like when it's built by a shop that's been cutting joints since 2004 — details most closet companies skip because particleboard can't hold them anyway.

Frequently Asked

Questions, Answered.

Don't see your question? We'd love to talk it through over a free in-home consultation.

Ask Us Directly
Why solid wood instead of melamine panels?

Melamine is particleboard with a printed laminate skin — it chips at the edges and sags under weight over time. Solid wood closet carpentry holds its shape and takes real wear for decades.

How long does a custom wood closet take?

Most solid wood wardrobe builds are installed within 4–7 weeks of design approval, depending on wood species and finish.

Can you build smaller reach-in closets too?

Yes. Reach-ins, kids' closets and pantry shelving follow the same solid wood build process, just at a smaller footprint.

Will you remove my old closet system first?

Yes — full demo, haul-away and wall patching are included in every custom wood closet quote.
